Need to add public description to the site about our newest offering; a training. Would suggest that description include learning outcomes that represent the basic levels of Bloom's Taxonomy (see rationale in parentheses below).

Draft description:
In this training, we introduce the fundamentals of successful agile government IT projects, building off of our De-Risking Guide https://derisking-guide.18f.gov/. After completing this training, your team will be able to:

  • Explain the basic principles of modern software design and identify them in practice (Bloom's Taxonomy = Remember & Understand; builds off of first section of De-risking guide)
  • Apply these principles while planning custom government IT projects (Bloom's Taxonomy = Apply; builds off of second section of De-risking guide)
  • Distinguish between risky outdated software development practices, and modern practices that reduce risk (Bloom's Taxonomy = Analyze; builds off of second and third sections of De-risking guide)
  • Evaluate software RFPs for risk mitigation (Bloom's Taxonomy = Evaluate; builds off of second and third sections of De-risking guide)
  • Adapt oversight metrics and post-award practices to agile projects (Bloom's Taxonomy = Create; builds off of fourth section of De-risking guide)

Additional offering details

  • No mixed agency trainings
  • Max 20 persons
  • Interactive training
  • Virtual
  • 3-4 person team, 3 weeks
  • Workshop Option A = $50k. Base Module: Delivering Software in Government - The Fundamentals (3hrs) + (Select 1) Module 1: Product Ownership in the Public Sector (3 hrs), Module 2: Agile Scoping, Budgeting & Solicitation (RFx) Writing (3 hrs), Module 3: Agile Oversight Roundtable (3 hrs)
  • Workshop Option B = $100k. Base Module: Delivering Software in Government - The Fundamentals (3 hrs) + (All 3)
  • If you would like to go deeper into these subjects or apply them to a specific project, our Acquisition Services would be better suited for you.

Considerations:

  • Make sure content and site placement communicates a clear difference between 18F's 2 workshops and that this is a Training offering.
  • Make sure it's clear on the site that this training aligns with 18F's De-risking Guide https://derisking-guide.18f.gov/.
  • Make sure it's clear that this training builds off of De-risking Guide so the added value of training is obvious.

@arouault should approve final content before publishing to site.

We can start by adding the budgeting guide to the "guides" page and making the workshops more prominent on the budgeting guide page. I'm talking with folks at 18F to discuss the site's IA to see if and how we can add the workshop and other independent sites (like the portfolios page) to the site cc @arouault

Thanks @Dahianna! One thing I want to suggest is that since similar trainings have previously been offered under a different name (and I just renamed this to "Training" to make the distinction very clear),and the budgeting guide got renamed too, could you make sure the folks you're talking to about IA call this the De-risking Training, not confused with the Acq Workshop, and also that the guide is the De-risking Guide not budgeting? Thanks

@Dahianna here are a couple of variations for adding the de-risking training information to the How we work page (soon to be the Our process page as per #3207):

A - Condensed text version

Condensed text

B - Longer text version

Long text

This only has the bottom portion of the page, but assume that everything from Assisted Acquisition and above is the same as the current How we work page.

The condensed text version has a subset of the details that @anjunainaustin provided that's about the same length as the other offerings on the How we work page. I'm imagining that the additional offering details link would go to the de-risking guide page where we could fill in more of the specifics about the two different workshops.

The long text version includes all of the content that @anjunainaustin added for the draft description. It feels like a lot for the How we work page since the other offerings only have about one paragraph or a couple of bullets.

Let me know what thoughts you have, and we can iterate on these versions if you think it's heading in the right direction, @Dahianna & @anjunainaustin!

Thanks @lauraponce! Whatever you and @Dahianna think is best, I trust your judgment.

I think the condensed version is best, so it's consistent in length with the others. @anjunainaustin let's add this to the how we work draft doc so we updated all at once. Thanks @lauraponce!

Quick copyedits @Dahianna - "De-risking" needs a noun

Can you please update the heading label to read "De-risking Gov Tech Training"
or some variation of that? De-risking isn't really even a word :)

Second copyedit:
"Deliver successful technology projects" instead of "Delivering"

thank you!

@Dahianna can you let us know what the status of this is? It looks like it never got added to the site -- does it still need to be?

I'd check with leadership and the de-risking team to see if this is even still an offering
