New Home Page
This is a draft page to replace the existing home page after team review
The mission of the ActivitySim project is to create and maintain advanced, open-source, activity-based travel behavior modeling software based on best software development practices for distribution at no charge to the public. This is ActivitySim's wiki page. The wiki is used to capture on-going work and development and decisions and conversations related to the development of ActivitySim. The issues tracked in github are commonly tied to development work and are linked when possible to programmed work efforts.
ActivitySim also has a website where you can gain additional information on the program management and governance of the ActivitySim project as well as outreach material and information. The website is the recommended starting point for anyone new to ActivitySim.
Note that the main sections under the wiki overview would become the new wiki TOC
This wiki covers the following:
- Current Development - On-going development work.
- Future Development - Work actively being scope or identified as a planned enhancement but not yet programmed into the work schedule. Note that this is currently pointing to Future Features, but we will want to update that page name, and then break the page into different sections. The first section would be work that we are actively scoping for the next phase. The following section or sections would be work/enhancements that have been identified but not yet programmed. Ideally that future work has an initial prioritization, but maybe that comes later.
- Past Development - Work that the group has already completed. This would be a new page that would largely be a copy of the current home page (minus the header and phase 5 work). Some additional edits would be made to ensure that all of the current TOC content by phase is added to this page, so that it doesn't clutter the TOC.
- Affiliated Packages and work - Not all of the development towards ActivitySim falls under the official consortium. Multiple efforts contribute to ActivitySim and have been or are getting worked into the formal ActivitySim package / tool suite.
- Working Operations - This covers a handful of group procedures and rules to decide on work
- Contribution Review - The rules and process on reviewing and deciding on contributions
Additional Note Capture The current development page would be updated as each new set of work was initiated and active. As sections of work were completed they would be moved to the “Past Development” page and off of the current development page. You will see that I noted that we would change the “Future Features” page to the “Future Development” page. It could stay as-is for now, but as we approached the next phase of work, we would do our active scoping for the next phase of work (VI) on the top of that future page and have longer term projects below that scoping to capture all improvement ideas. I would note that I think the strategic document (Phase V task 2) needs to help clarify how we capture and prioritize / phase all the improvement ideas from the group. So whatever Phase V task 2 helps us figure out would go on the future development page.
For the Past Development page, it would largely be a copy of what is currently on the home page, but it would need some work to add in all the detail currently in the TOC. The TOC would be reduced down to ~5 bullets (maybe it could grow over time).
For the Affiliated Packages page – I think it could stay as is for now, but again Phase V Task 2 might help us think about this page. I think that should be a place where we can link to any other content on outside development towards ActivitySim (that’s occurring outside the formal task efforts).
I could also see “Working Operations” getting expanded as we think about the various rules and procedures that we might document for managing the work (might also be informed by Phase V task 2).
PS – for this new home page I assumed that the Governance and agreements content is going to the webpage or maybe AMPOs page…
