Fixes #7053

  • uses EventSelector in more places

Note: Had to revert computation of note type id in Noir so that it gets computed in rust again because of this issue.

Had to do this change as note_type_id no longer has the same length as note type.

It's broken:

Compiling AddressNote for whatever reason results in an note type id which later on fails with parser error:

image

I tried increasing the note id size to 8 bytes from 4 and it fails and once again for the addressnote type id. And once again it's triggered by that specific note type id value (tried hardcoding it and it fails for all notes). If I tweak the value in any way, then it all compiles.
I also just tried taking the u32 value in the compute_note_type_id func and cast it to u64 with the same result.

For all the other contracts which don't use AddressNote there is no issue present.

Unified the message here with Fr from foundation package since I am checking the messages in tagged_log.ts. Would probably be good to tackle this one

Benchmark results

Metrics with a significant change:

  • avm_simulation_time_ms (Token:mint_public): 68.5 (-88%)
  • avm_simulation_time_ms (Token:assert_minter_and_mint): 223 (+265%)
  • avm_simulation_time_ms (FPC:prepare_fee): 193 (+35%)
  • protocol_circuit_witness_generation_time_in_ms (private-kernel-tail-to-public): 8,017 (+16%)
  • protocol_circuit_witness_generation_time_in_ms (root-rollup): 84.6 (-39%)
Detailed results

All benchmarks are run on txs on the Benchmarking contract on the repository. Each tx consists of a batch call to create_note and increment_balance, which guarantees that each tx has a private call, a nested private call, a public call, and a nested public call, as well as an emitted private note, an unencrypted log, and public storage read and write.

This benchmark source data is available in JSON format on S3 here.

What is the reason that we don't just have a have a class extending the selector for the note type id when we have for the event and function selector?

Seems like it would be simpler to deal with the validity checks and all of that then 🤷

I'm curious how we ended up eating 💩 here while it did not have that issue in the event log case, guess there is somewhere that is breaking it a separate place? Looking forward to seeing fixed in a later pr, but I think this is still quite nice 👍
