Can't load source image

This is running under Linux Mint 22 in venv. Neither dragging nor uploading a jpg or png is accepted by the browser. The terminal window shows no response or error message and the "blip" that shows up when uploading is too fast to read what the error is. I've tried in firefox and vivaldi and it's the same result, and all blocking turned off for both. I can upload a target image or video without error and can run the faceswap without error, it just produces the same target as the output because there is no source.

Any ideas on fixing this? Thanks in advance
