Research Guide
This section serves as a reference and guide for volunteers contributing to the Research portion of the Hawaii Zoning Atlas. Right now, the main task is to enter key information from the zoning and land use codes into our datasheet. If you haven't done this before, attend an HZA meeting or email Trey for guidance (gg3 at vt dot edu) before editing the datasheet. Otherwise, here are the steps to contribute:
Download and open the How to Make a Zoning Atlas PDF guide. Open the datasheet. Check the Projects tab of the repository to see open tasks and choose a County and task to work on. Open that County's zoning code, linked in the "Zoning/Land Use Codes" section below. Read the code and complete the section of the datasheet corresponding to the task. (Need more guidance? The PDF you downloaded in step 1 includes detailed instructions for each task!)
Where possible, the source of record is the Hawaii Statewide GIS Program, which is updated regularly from County sources. See Download GIS Data for details.
