Between 1/5th and 1/4 of the world's population has a disability. Most governments have a requirement for at least the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA, if not 2.1 AA.

I think it is appropriate that DPGs

  • Make a commitment to being meeting the latest WCAG recommendation
  • have an issue queue, with a tag for accessibility bugs
  • include an accessibility statement, encouraging folks to improve the accessibility of the code

Ideally we'd also see a commitment to the Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0, if the DPG is an authoring tool.

There are several ways that disability ties to the SDGs - https://social.desa.un.org/issues/disability/sustainable-development-goals-sdgs-and-disability

But explicitly seeking this out would be important.
