STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: The U.S. Army cannot construct an Isolated Personnel Recovery Site Control Measure. The U.S. Army (and Services) has been using the “Downed Aircrew Pick-Up Point symbol” (Symbol Set Code: 25, Code 180300) to attempt to depict this control measure, but it doesn’t adequately portray the information needed. The U.S. Army needs a symbol that can portray an Isolated Personnel Recovery Site for 1 or more individuals, or a group of individuals.
This identified military symbol gap is currently not permitting the U.S. Army to properly differentiate “Isolated Personnel Recovery Site” from a “Downed Aircrew Pick-Up Point”. Not being able to differentiate this unique action from a “Downed Aircrew Pick-Up Point” can cause confusion when creating doctrine organization structures, course of action sketches, overlays, or a common operation picture.
PROPOSED SOLUTION: Change the name of Symbol Set Code: 25, Code 180300 “Downed Aircrew Pick-Up Point” to “Isolated Personnel Recovery Site”, add an additional information field (H), and a DTG field (W-W2) to effectively identify the number of individuals and time of recovery. This will make this symbol more generic and allow more flexibility in its usage.
