Changelog

[Unreleased] -- Unreleased

(TODO: Intro)

How to upgrade

(TODO)

Added

  • Mentioned the Steam library setup tool as a means to achieve a different Steam library configuration. (#26)
  • Added Daan Vissers to the acknowledgements.

Changed

[1.3.0] -- 2024-07-28

This version adds instructions on using the MCM, and fixes a potential issue with saves not being synced by Steam.

How to upgrade

Follow these steps to update your mod list from v1.2.0 to v1.3.0 of my guide.

  • Previously, the guide recommended enabling profile-specific saves for your MO2 profile. This allows you to create multiple profiles in MO2 with separate mod lists and separate saves. However, this also prevents Steam from storing your saves in the Steam Cloud. As of this release, the guide recommends that you disable profile-specific saves.

You can disable profile-specific saves as follows.

    1. In MO2, open the "Profiles" dialog. You can do so by pressing Ctrl + P, or by going to "Tools" in the main menu, and then clicking "Profiles".
    2. Select the profile you want to disable profile-specific saves for.
    3. Click "Transfer Saves".
    4. For each entry in the top-right box:
      1. Click the entry.
      2. Click "<- Move".
      3. Click "Yes".
    5. At the bottom, click "Done".
    6. Below the list of profiles, disable "Use profile-specific Save Games".
    7. When prompted for confirmation, click "No".
    8. Click "Close".

Added

Changed

  • Removed recommendation to use profile-specific saves in MO2.

[1.2.0] -- 2024-05-27

This version has some minor fixes and clarifications for new users, and some minor mod updates for existing users.

How to upgrade

Follow these steps to update your mod list from v1.1.3 to v1.2.0 of my guide.

Added

  • Added fix for making dev console more legible. (#18)
  • Added more extensive general troubleshooting tips.
  • Added guidance for adding mods not described in this guide. (#6) (#11)
  • Extended instructions on downgrading non-VR FO4's next-gen patch. Previously, the Wasteland Workshop DLC was not downgraded. This downgrade seems mostly inconsequential, but was included for completeness.

Changed

Fixed

  • Replaced dead link with additional INI tweaks with Web Archive link.

[1.1.3] -- 2024-05-05

This version contains only one minor fix, but nothing significant for existing users.

How to upgrade

No steps are required to update your mod list from v1.1.2 to v1.1.3 of my guide.

Added

Fixed

  • Fixed the directory to install downgraded DLC into from [fo4_dir] to [fo4vr_dir]. (#16)

[1.1.2] -- 2024-05-01

This version contains a few fixes for new users, but nothing significant for existing users.

How to upgrade

No steps are required to update your mod list from v1.1.1 to v1.1.2 of my guide.

Added

  • Added instructions for dealing with DLC incompatibilities due to the non-VR FO4 next-gen update. (#14)
  • Added an acknowledgements section to the guide.
  • Added KindaWorks to the acknowledgements. (#14)

Changed

[1.1.1] -- 2024-04-24

This version contains a few minor updates to mods and a few clarifications in the installation instructions.

How to upgrade

Follow these steps to update your mod list from v1.1.0 to v1.1.1 of my guide.

Added

  • Added small note on FRIK alpha 64. This version is currently untested in my guide, but is probably fine.

Changed

Removed

Fixed

  • Corrected the version number of Buffout 4 NG from v1.13.1 to v1.31.1. (#12)
  • Fixed a small typo in the vrperfkit installation instructions.

[1.1.0] -- 2024-04-09

Thank you, everyone, for the great reactions!

I've incorporated plenty of comments and feedbacks, and fixed a few errors.

How to upgrade

Follow these steps to update your mod list from v1.0.0 to v1.1.0 of my guide.

  • Mods
  • Settings
    • Add the "Fix glowing hair" config from Section 3.2.2 to your INI configuration.
    • Add the "Increase UI rendering quality" config from Section 3.2.2 to your INI configuration.
    • Update your settings for Survival Options according to Section 5.4.3.
  • Notes
    • Unlike what this guide said earlier, using quicksaves and autosaves is actually fine.
    • If you did not finish the prologue yet, disable UFO4P, start a new game, and follow Section 5 of the guide again.

Added

  • Added description of guide's limitations to introduction.
  • Added an INI config snippet for fixing weirdly glowing hair.
  • Added an INI config snippet for improving the quality of the UI.
  • Added note about anecdotal reports about issues with UFO4P in other guides.
  • Added Binaural 3D Surround Sound for Headphones.
  • Added instructions on how to obtain settings holotapes for Survival Options and Bullet Time VATS VR.
  • Added additional tips for troubleshooting with FRIK.

Changed

Removed

  • Removed Hip-Fire Perk Replacers. Hip-fire is less broken in VR than I thought, so this mod isn't actually necessary. It's fine to keep using this mod, but it's no longer part of this guide. You can remove the mod safely from an existing playthrough, because it only edits existing perks, without adding or removing any.
  • Removed Unofficial Fallout 4 VR Fix. Since this guide now requires that UFO4P is disabled during the prologue, this patch is no longer required. You can remove the mod safely from an existing playthrough, because it affects only the first time you exit Vault 111.
  • Removed Survival Options for non-survival playthroughs. Using quicksaves and autosaves is actually fine, so there's no need to use this mod in non-survival mode.

Fixed

  • Fixed an incorrect claim that critical hits do not exist outside of VATS.
  • Fixed an incorrect claim that using autosaves and quicksaves is unsafe and causes bugs. Apparently, this advice has been incorrect since the release of Oblivion, 18 years ago...
  • Require that UFO4P is disabled during entirety of prologue, since this causes a crash when exiting Vault 111.

[1.0.0] -- 2024-04-01

Initial release.
