<description>Nothing seems to be alive in this shadow-filled yard. Large skeletal trees loom over the path, their dry brown leaves swirling and skittering in drifting patterns across the barren lawn. The walkway's paving stones are broken or missing in random spots, and occasionally a large flat stone protrudes upright, as if it had been heaved up out of the ground. A large two-story building squats at the end of the yard, the flared eaves of its tiled roof hanging over a wide front porch.</description>

<description>This house, it is said, was inhabited by a crazy man, but only whispers spread the tale. A deep chill fills the room, unsettling and icy. The air is strangely fresh and the room seems cared for by an unseen source. A magnificent Elven carpet covers the hardwood floor, its colors only slightly dulled by age, and the walls of soft green silk hold torch sconces illuminating the opulent room. An overstuffed burgundy leather chair faces a large portrait of the Dunshade family in a gilt frame.</description>

The festively handpainted black and white checkered floor is strewn with shattered bits of milk pitchers, wine jugs and mustard pots laying amongst bread baskets and dish towels. A heavy marble-topped table lays on its side, and a lone unbroken vase rests against it holding a bunch of dried up sunflowers. The only thing still in place is a wallboard holding a collection of bone-handled knives.</description>

The chair is angled to face a painted portrait, as if the owner spent many hours contemplating it. A massive mahogany ledger hutch fills one wall of the study.</description>

A thick layer of dust covers the broad expanse of acanth wood floor, dulling its natural sheen. Matching ornate sofas line the wall, many of them overturned or split open. A delicately carved frieze borders the room, just below the ceiling.</description>

A couple of cozy armchairs sit on either side of a stately lamp, angled toward each other, a pleasant place for a quiet late-night conversation. Shattered pieces of glassware are strewn across the top of a lemonwood dresser.</description>

<description>A staircase emerges into a narrow, roughly-constructed attic, with bare hardwood floors and worm-eaten timbers to hold the oddly angled roof in place. An unsettling silence hangs in the air, accompanied by a deep chill that cuts to the bone and turns breath to curlicues of frost. Pale shafts of light from below cast the attic in deep, shifting shadows, creating the illusion that the tilting walls and jagged beams stretch almost endlessly north, vanishing into darkness.</description>

<description>The icy air is stifled with choking clouds of dust, as the attic twists and bends like the work of a mad architect. Shadows dance across every surface and fill every corner, their strange wavering making the walls seem to slowly close in, like the maw of a great beast. To the north, the bleak light from the staircase dwindles to nothingness. There is a way around the standing timber-columns to the east, where there seems to be a sort of storage loft.</description>
