pydantic 2.0 breaks nomenclature #259

pydantic 2.0 came out last Friday (https://docs.pydantic.dev/2.0/blog/pydantic-v2-final/) and there are some breaking changes.
For now I'd suggest a version pin but we should migrate at some point.
