Youtube Series
This page is still yet to be updated for Programs and Launch Complexes.
Go there to figure out the differences and learn to play. Rockets from pre-PLC guides will probably work, while advice on the financial side of your space program will probably be wrong.
The following page compiles useful Youtube resources for learning RP-1. As the links are to locations external of this wiki, they may break and become outdated. Without further ado:
An ongoing RP-1 career that starts in KSP 1.7.3 and upgrades to 1.8.1, focused on the new player experience. New episodes are actively being produced as of July 2020 using version 1.5 of RP-1, making this the most up-to-date career video series currently on YouTube. This series is near real-time and provides commentary on the additional things you need to learn to play an RP-1 career compared to a stock career. Justin draws from other guides and the community for lessons, but tries to break down this information in an accessible way. He also includes brief historical bits of context for why to use certain design philosophies at various points in career progression. If you look closely, you may see notes and ideas from RP-1 devs in the comments for some videos, which are then frequently and helpfully incorporated into gameplay in subsequent videos. Thanks for reading, Justin!
By far the most comprehensive and most referenced tutorial playthrough out there for the early through mid game. A mostly-US run of RP-1's predecessor, RP-0, the series holds up despite its age and is excellent at guiding the viewer through advanced and time-saving rocketry tricks and techniques. While it wasn't made for RP-1, it is still absolutely worth a watch if you're not used to the more realistic mechanics of RSSRO. Runs all the way through manned lunar landings.
Also an RP-0 run, Cosmonaut Crash's career has produced an incredible and lengthy (approaching 600 episodes) series of videos. While Cosmo doesn't dive into the nitty gritty details of the very early game as much as NathanKell, this series tracks his career from first orbit all the way through manned landings on Mars and it's moons. Cosmo dives into the details of advanced mission design and planning. An inspirational series for those trying to start a long-running career.
A brief series based on getting through the early suborbital rocketry phase as rapidly as possible so you can get on to the good stuff. Based on this guide. Many of the aspects of the guide are no longer applicable if playing more recent versions of RP-1 due to major overhauls of the pre-orbit contracts, and the production of the series ended abruptly due to hardware issues. Still, it may provide a beginner to intermediate player with some ideas on how to get through the early progression, but other resources are recommended to supplement your learning with more up to date information.
A fairly recent addition to the YouTube KSP community as of June 2020, but a long standing and seasoned KSP RO/RSS player, Calvin's RP-1 series is one of the most cinematic and visually stunning out there. Known for his relentless attention to detail when designing all manner of rockets, space planes or probes, Calvin showcases his unique artistic blend mixed in with his engineering background for a captivating and highly entertaining watch with an educational bend. The series begins at the very start of RP-1 in 1951 and delves heavily into the space plane portion of the game before branching out into orbital rocketry. Episodes are somewhat frequently produced, and he has no intention in stopping any time soon.
Carnasa’s Kerbal Gets Real is a new current series (as of July 2020) using a blend of cinematic shots and time-lapses to take you through an RP1 career with relative efficiency. Carnasa employs an engaging fast paced voiceover full of helpful hints and design tips, as well as general commentary on the state of the career. Episodes are released very frequently (every other day) with each episode taking place over the course of an in game year.
Destroyers playthrough of RP-1 is one focused on speed, being one of the fastest at the time of writing (February 2021). Each episode is an edited cinematic roughly 10 minutes long.
In this series, he plays as the ESA. One of the first youtubers to play career mode in the new PLC update for RP-1. There are so far about 90 episodes in the playlist. He has also started another playthrough, where he makes different decisions compared to this one. This is the JAXA playthrough
