Yesterday, but have reinstalled recently and maybe not noticed, do not know what info you require, get a brief circular "flash" then nothing.
Manjaro Linux Unstable FF 58.0.2-1.1

Well, your OS shouldn't matter and I just verified that that v2.7.3 from AMO works in FF 58.0.2.
So my first two questions are:

  1. Dies it work in a clean profile? You can start an independent Firefox instance and create a new Profile with firefox -no-remote -p assuming Firefox is on you PATH
  2. If not, does the current beta v2.8.7b1(link updated, but installation still broken, see below) (which includes tons of changes) work in a fresh profile?

Current beta works fine, thank you.

Current beta works fine

Only in a fresh profile, or also in your original profile, where the release version doesn't work.
In the latter case I'd like to just close this and focus on getting the beta to a release state.

I'm experiencing the same behavior as xircon when using the add-on in my default profile on FF 59.02. It does work in a fresh profile, though. I suppose I could migrate everything to the new profile but that seems like a hassle, so I'd like to see if the beta version will work. I followed the link but couldn't find the beta version there. Do you expect it will be released soon?

Interesting. Firefox should not keep any state stat could prevent the extension from working other than the extensions own options.
You should try to reset those. I think one way to do that is to remove the extension and just install it again from AMO.
If clearing the extension options doesn't help, but the extension does work in a fresh profile. Then there is very most likely a Firefox bug involved here.
I once had a problem where, for whatever reasons, none of my extensions could do network requests (which obviously broke WikipediaPeek).
The problem disappeared after a while (Firefox updates).

followed the link but couldn't find the beta version

I guess this due to the Removal of beta versions on addons.mozilla.org (email newsletter from 2018-02-05) and the related blog post: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2018/02/28/discontinuing-support-for-beta-versions/

For now, here is a direct link to the file. If the installation from the link does not work, download the file and drag it onto the about:addons page:
wikipedia_peek-2.8.7b2-an+fx.zip
EDIT: I could not install the older file anymore, so I created a new one, but that has to use a different ID, so it will not replace the published version but can be installed at the same time. You probably want to disable the release version.

Please try if resetting the options helps, if it doesn't, try the beta.

Do you expect it will be released soon?

Well. A year ago I didn't expect it to take more than a year. But you could help me with insightful feedback. Is the beta actually better than the current version (apart from that not working)? What do you think should be addressed before a release?

Thanks for the thorough response. Reinstalling the published version did not work, but the beta version does.

I will keep an eye out for issues with the beta version and update with any that I find. But it seems excellent so far—I especially love that it does xkcd previews!

I have Firefox version 75 (64 bit) and wikipedia-peek version 2.7.3 yet NONE of my links pop up whenever I hover my icon over them. Please help!!! This was definitely in my top 3 favorite FF add-ons and I don't know what I'm doing wrong or why it's no longer working on my laptop!
Thank you!!!

PS Whenever I hover over a link on Wikipedia, it'll show like it's initially trying really quickly by showing a swirl motion that's so short I can't catch it long enough to take a picture for you to see what it looks like. But then it's rapid fast gone and the link does nothing. Thanks again.

I can confirm too: the last version from addons.mozilla.org stopped working a while ago, but v2.8.7b2 works fine! (FF 75.0)

Similar issues. 2.8.7b2 works but I cannot open the options because it says:

500 Fatal Error
This extension page can't be displayed in private windows, container tabs or other non-normal contexts.

Please try to open moz-extension://dbd4315c-e509-42c6-bddb-496255f495fc/WikiPeek?originalTab=169#options in a normal tab.

This happens when I go to the extension in the add-ons and click option. Didn't have this problem with the previous version which wasn't working(would not display the window but seemed to load the data).
