  1. Eid al-Fitr, also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan.

  2. Union Health Ministry has said the Central Government is consistently and proactively working to secure and enhance the availability of vaccines . It dismissed reports appeared in a section of media followed by some uninformed tweets alleging delay in licensing for Covaxin and delayed approval for technology transfer for manufacturing COVAXIN vaccine in the country.

  3. Over 17 crore 72 lakh COVID vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far. The Union Health Ministry said that more than 18 lakh 94 thousand beneficiaries were inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours.

  4. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare recently announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the eighth instalment of Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Under the Scheme, the Government of India transfers Rs 6,000 to the account of small and marginal farmers. These funds are transferred in three instalments. The first instalment of Rs 2,000 is made between April and June. Second Instalment is made between August and November. The third instalment is made between December and March

  1. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that the lockdown that is currently in force across the state till May 16, has now been extended till 25th of May

  2. Vineyard Wind Project is the first major Offshore wind farm that is to power 400,000 homes. The project aims to install 84 turbines in the Atlantic Ocean.

  3. The State Government of Maharashtra has launched the “Maharashtra Mission Oxygen”. Under the mission, the daily production of the state is to be increased to 3,000 tonnes.

  4. Government of India recently increased the gap between the two doses of the COVISHIELD Vaccine. The gap was increased from six to eight weeks to twelve to sixteen weeks. This is the second time in three months, the gaps between the doses of COVISHIELD have been widened. In March 2021, the Union Territories and State Governments were asked to increase the gap from twenty-eight days to six to eight weeks.

  5. Nagaland will come under one week total lockdown from 6 PM today till 21st of May to contain the spread of coronavirus. During the total lockdown period, all activities and movements of persons will remain suspended except permitted activities such as essential services including agricultural activities.

  6. E- Sanjeevani platform is proving beneficial for the patients in getting the health services related to COVID-19 . This flagship national telemedicine service of the Health Ministry has already served more than 50 lakh patients in the country. The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has said that the eSanjeevani initiative is operational in 31 States and Union Territories.

  7. The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, India has taken cognizance of a complaint over several dead bodies found floating in the river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It has issued notices to the Chief Secretaries of both the States and the Secretary, Union Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation) calling for action taken report within four weeks.

  8. Maharashtra has extended the lockdown like restrictions till 7 am on June 1. The new order says that anyone entering the state will have to carry a negative RT-PCR report. This rule was earlier applicable only to travellers coming into the state marked as sensitive origin.

  9. Bodu Naga Lakshmi, who is a famous YouTuber. Lakshmi, who hails from a small village of Varikuntpudu in Andhra Pradesh, donated 15,000 rupees to the Sood Foundation and this was her 5-month pension. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood said, She is the richest woman in India for me. You do not need eyesight to see someone’s pain. Recently, Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan has contributed to the Sood Foundation. Common people are also contributing to their foundation.

  10. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, scheduled to be held on 27th of June this year. The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing COVID situation. The Examination will now be held on 10th October, 2021.

  11. India's Geo Imaging Satellite GISAT-1 launch further delayed : Uncertainty continues to dog the flight of India's first Geo Imaging Satellite (GISAT-1) this time due to coronavirus spread across the country, said an official of the Indian space agency. The GISAT-1 will be the country's first sky eye or earth observation satellite to be placed in geostationary orbit.

  12. IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar-IPS chaired a review meeting at PCR Kashmir through video conferencing with district SSsP of Kashmir Zone. DIG CKR Srinagar and SSP Srinagar attended the meeting at PCR Kashmir.

  13. A low pressure area has formed over southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Lakshadweep area yesterday, the 13th May morning (0830 hrs IST). It is very likely to become well marked over Lakshadweep area by 14th morning , concentrate into a Depression over the same region by 15th morning and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to intensify further and move north- northwestwards towards Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coasts. It is likely to reach near Gujarat coast around 18th May evening.

  3. The Bhubaneswar airport is going to receive 4,020 seamless oxygen cylinders from foreign countries through various flights within a week, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said on Thursday. The airport has handled transportation of 156 oxygen tankers

  4. In a major relief to the import-dependent Indian pharmaceutical industry, Chinese state-owned Sichuan Airlines has resumed its cargo services to India . The decision of Sichuan to suspend its services to India due to increasing COVID-19 cases for 15 days.

  5. After K9 Vajra India may buy another tank from South Korea Hanwha Defense has told Janes it plans to offer its K21-105 Light Tank to meet a new requirement within the Indian Army. If selected for the programme Hanwha Defense plans to build the platform in India through its existing partnership with local firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

  6. US took note of China’s warning to Bangladesh against Quad: The US has taken note of a Chinese diplomat’s statement warning Bangladesh against joining the Quad, the informal grouping of Australia, India, Japan and America to coordinate in the Indo-Pacific region.

  1. US President Joe Biden spoke to the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on the Israel-Palestine conflict . President Biden said he hopes that the hostilities will come to a conclusion.

  2. Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz ordered a “massive reinforcement” of security forces to help contain deadly internal unrest that has rocked mixed Jewish and Arab communities across the country . The orders come amid a flare of violence in recent days in mixed towns inside Israel.

  3. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says no to US military bases on its soil Amid the final drawdown of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan , Pakistan has made it clear that it will not allow any foreign military bases on its soil after the pullback of foreign forces from the neighbouring country.

  4. China launched two classified Yaogan satellites last week . The satellites, belonging to the Yaogan-30 family, have entered the planned orbit successfully. They will be used for electromagnetic environment detection and related tests.

  5. Everyone would be brought under COVID vaccination programme in Bangladesh: PM Sheikh Hasina said.

  6. Cameroon has cancelled celebrations marking this year's National Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A statement by a state minister Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh said President Paul Biya had called off all official ceremonies to commemorate the day that is 20th of May.

  3. Kusal Perera has been named Sri Lanka’s ODI captain ahead of their three-match series against Bangladesh.

  4. Sri Lanka have named a young squad for the series, which starts on May 23. Only three players in the team are aged more than 30 while 33-year-old Isuru Udana is the only player aged over 31. The team leaves for Bangladesh on May 16 to take part in a three-match ODI series.
