Hook for updating/mirroring repo files in documentation

It would be nice to have a hook that is more general than the docs-landing-page hook.
I.e., a hook where the user can specify repository files that should be copied into the root documentation folder (defaults to docs) or a subfolder therein, with a rename and such. In this way one would only need to manage the file in one place and the documentation would be automatically updated.
