The original Microsoft explainer is very old and has a lot of out-of-date details.

Here's a new explainer: https://xiaochengh.github.io/Explainers/css-anchor-position/explainer.html

Given the recent proposals and ideas presented by WebKit to the CSSWG, would it be fair to ask that this standards position for a general Anchor Positioning feature in CSS be marked Positive?

We support Anchor Positioning as a whole. It will solve the use cases of very real needs.

We do not believe the current specification (as of Aug 2023) is yet mature enough to ship. The CSSWG is in the midst of the normal process of debating various ideas, honing a strong start into a great end result. We are deeply involved with that process, and our specific ideas, concerns, and questions, have been expressed in the appropriate venues.

We look forward to a more-mature layout model for Anchor Positioning. Once we’re closer to that end state, we’ll publish our position.

Hi, a quick update:

Based on a lot of great feedback, including from WebKit and co-editorship from @fantasai, the spec now has a number of additional features, improved ergonomics, good integration with the cascade, and a mature layout model. Further, a new WD was published last week with many of those updates. I think the core feature is in place.

Would love to get an update from the WebKit team once they are satisfied with the spec, so we can start shipping CSS anchoring as a progressive enhancement.
