What I expected
I expected the image to link to automattic.com and intuitively account for the lack of the https:// prefix

What happened instead
The URL entered appends to the end of the post/page slug:

Image Link: Markup 2021-04-03 at 10 38 49

Clicking on the image results in a 404

This was first reported on a WordPress.com simple site but we were able to reproduce it on a local WordPress.org, with and without the Gutenberg plugin (Version 10.3.1).

I suspected there was probably already an open issue and I looked up but I was not able to find it. Thank you @skorasaurus!
