Original issue 314 created by Omertron on 2008-12-03T06:39:27.000Z:

It would be useful to have an alternative title option in the nfo for
sorting purposes. In the xml there is a tag line called <sort title> or
something like that which allows the movie to be sorted in a different way
than by filename title or nfo title.

There is currently an unused tag called "originaltitle" which might suit this purpose

Right! Didn't see that one. It's currently unused. Right?

Yes, so we'd have to see what XBMC uses it for, and if it's what we need too

Also, about the filename title. Because in most cases the filenames need editing in
order to get the correct title, in my opinion it's more trouble than it's worth. I
would go for the IMDB title as default and use the <title> tag in the nfo to
overwrite it. Or wouldn't be better if we had an option in in the
moviejukebox.properties file like IMDB.title=true ?

I'd like this as well. I tried to override in an xml .nfo file, but to
no avail (in 1.14) . It did respect the tag, so I know that the .nfo file is
being processed correctly. Personally, I'd prefer the title sort to be based upon
file name. I already have the files sorting properly in the file system (for use in
plain old explorer) so why sort them differently? Perhaps this could be handled
with a "title.sort.field" property in the .properties file. The default would be
"title" and if one wishes, it could be changed to "baseFilename". Either one
(override or .properties entry) would suffice for my purposes. Thanks.

Any update on this one?

As well, are there any new fields working in the XBMC format that we can now use in
the next release?

Is the XBMC for TV shows working now?

Yes, the layout works...that's the series level info. But we have not
implemented the layout yet.

This feature is greatly needed for me too. It would be a workaround for issue 1471,
about sorting accented characters, which are very frequent in french.
If I could use:

<title>L'évènement le plus important</title> L'evenement le plus important

to sort that movie between "L'Abominable" and "L'Ours", it would be ok for me.
Now, unfortunately, titles with accented characters are not shown where they should be

being French makes us deal with lots of accented characters (take for instance "La
môme", "Une éducation", ...).

But there are more "common" problems : "Kuzko 2" comes before "Kuzko, the Emperor's
new groove" (aka Kuzko 1).

This feature would be great.

After checking with r2323, it does not work for me. Maybe I don't know how to use it.
I have this movie named "Délivrance" in french which is not sorted correctly because of the "é" (I expect to find "Dé" between "Da" and "Di", but I find it after "Dy").
I have create this NFO:

Delivrance
166

Am I missing something? (there is nothing in the wiki on that subject).
I was expecting movie to be sorted according to the "sorttitle", not the title found in Allocine.

As you can see on this capture, Délivrance comes after Dune.
And I have no errors in the logfile.
Thanks for your help.

I may know why it doesn't work. When using sorttitle on a movie, I need to delete the previous and next movies xml files because there are linked to the one I want to move.
I'll have a try and let you know.

Doesn't work, even with mjb.recheck.XML=true. Do I need to rebuild the whole jukebox?

I think the IMDB plugin is overwriting the sorttitle when it scrapes.

If you set both title and sorttitle in the NFO it works, if you just have sorttitle it doesn't.

I'll look into fixing it properly

I'm not using the IMDB plugin but Allocine. Anyway I'll check it setting both title & sorttitle.
Thanks!

Doesn't matter what the plugin is, for some reason the sorttitle is overridden when the title is updated. I need to work out a way to prevent that.
