When a database is not at the correct migration version, connecting to it will fail, however, verdi status will not give enough reason to deduce this:

 ✔ config dir:  /home/sphuber/.virtualenvs/aiida_marchand/.aiida
 ✔ profile:     On profile dmarchand
 ✔ repository:  /scratch/dmarchand/repository
 ✘ postgres:    Unable to connect as aiida@localhost:5432
 ✔ rabbitmq:    Connected to amqp://127.0.0.1?heartbeat=600
 ⏺ daemon:      The daemon is not running
