What

We have an approach to pages that don't use the GOV.UK brand - an Unbranded template and an Unbranded layout.

We would like to revisit the approach we take in future

Why

The current approach is not as flexible as we would like because we use GOV.UK Frontend's global styles

Use case 1 (currently broken)

  • Essex council create a prototype that doesn't use GOV.UK Frontend
  • Every page is styled with the Essex Council plugin
  • They install GOV.UK Frontend to add a start page
  • As a result, all their pages have the GOV.UK Frontend style

Use case 2 (currently working)

  • A GDS developer starts a prototype that only uses GOV.UK Frontend
  • As a result they don't need to write classes on every paragraph, link etc because the global styles are applied

Who needs to work on this

  • developers
  • interaction designer

Who needs to review this

  • developers
  • interaction designer

Done when

  • Investigate ways to implement unbranded pages

Worth discussing with GOV.UK Frontend as part of their v5 changes. Could something specific to the Kit be added?
