Description

With 0.57.18 you need to put shields down to watch a video on Hulu. Allowing Ads and Trackers is not enough.

Note, In 0.56.15 you did not need to put shields down to watch a video on Hulu - I was able to view a video with standard shield configuration.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Install 0.57.18
2. Navigate to Hulu
3. Install Widevine
4. Login and try to play a video.

Actual result:

Unable to play video. Get message below until you put shields down.

Expected result:

No error message, able to view video.

Reproducible on current release:

Website problems only:

• Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields? yes
• Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome? Using Chrome 71.0.3578.98 and UBlock Origin extension, issue does not reproduce.

Issue does not reproduce on previous version, 0.56.15

Additionally, with Amazon Prime the issue does not occur on 0.56.15. Note, there is no error message displayed on 0.57.x when trying to view an Amazon Prime video, there is just an endless spinner for me.

Wanted to add my own +1 to this as well, although the issue is slightly different. Not specific to video playback - rather, I was unable to login to Hulu with Shields up or down in release build. Login/page buttons were unresponsive:

Some additional notes:
Using a clean profile with 0.57.18 and 0.58.14, Netflix works fine with default shields, but Hulu and Amazon prime require shields to be down (allowing ads/trackers is not enough).

I noted above the issues with the Hulu site being generally unresponsive (let alone playing video) but this now extends to Prime Video and Netflix on release channel v0.57.18.
Also have a Reddit user claiming that he's unable to watch anything that's DRM protected despite having installed Widevine and adjusted the "protected content" settings.

Only difference is that he is able to initiate playback with Shields down (where as I'm unable to).

@iefremov verified I was able to view Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime videos with default shields on using this build:
