followup to PR #306 with quick fixes for CLI argument error handling

  • CLI should exit with a clean error message, with no stacktrace
  • CLI should either show the help text or tell the user how to get the help text
  • add CLI integration tests, to better ensure this functionality continues to work properly in case of further commander API updates
