Acceptance Criteria

  • Audit some other design systems of how they are organizing Menu, Combo button, Menu button, and Overflow menu
  • Create a prototype or content flow of how it would look like to bucket Combo button/Menu button/Overflow menu under a Menu umbrella using our template.
  • Playback findings of audit and prototype.

After discussing with the design team, we decided to move forward with this direction:

In the nav there will be separate pages for Menu and Menu buttons.

  • Build content for Menu: just the menu primitive.
  • Build content for Menu buttons: including Menu button, Combo button, and Overflow menu.

Lingering concerns when starting to write the doc:

  • Naming convention of Menu and Menu buttons in the nav (considering different types of menu)
  • Overflow menu --> Overflow button? Keep Overflow menu, but be descriptive about the button trigger in the docs.
  • Defining menu triggers within the system (Can mention this in the Menu docs, interactive section)
  • Slack discussion about combo button usage: https://ibm-studios.slack.com/archives/CQGR0HC05/p1690916565672849
