The first experience many have with the Unmark open source project is marred due to the dependencies of gettext extension not be included with PHP by default. I'm starting to do research on a much more simple language feature that would preserve our ability to support internationalization but have zero added dependencies.

Any suggestions and up votes or down votes welcome.

I'd like to bring this back up. It has been nearly a year and I am now going to revisit this issue. But any feedback at all is welcome here. gettext continues to be an issue for many.
