The k8s Cluster API allows Kubernetes to handle configurations, including provisioning, of k8s clusters on resources from infrastructure providers (bare metal, cloud, KVM, vSphere). Further developments in this area look at composite resource descriptions (see Crossplane.io) to allow Kubernetes to handle both the cluster and the container workloads running inside it.
Would it possibly be attractive to have an Omnia Cluster API plugin (or just possibly, does it exist already)? Then the clusters Omnia can deploy can be handled through the k8s API. Of course, Omnia provides the foundation for other CRD’s (Custom Resource Definitions) that may not have been given much attention in the k8s world yet, but a plugin with its capable HPC bare metal installer would be very attractive.
What does the Omnia community think about this?
