Error message displayed in Activity logs while upgrading .tar Agent from 7.10 BC4 to 7.11 Snapshot. #22306

Elasticsearch version:

Host OS and Browser version:
Linux, All

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.):
7.11 Snapshot Cloud environment

Description
[Ingest Manager]: Error message displayed in Activity logs while upgrading .tar Agent from 7.10 BC4 to 7.11 Snapshot.

Preconditions

  1. Artifacts for Agent Kibana should be available.
    Link used: https://staging.elastic.co/7.10.0-c650b297/summary-7.10.0.html/elastic-agent-7.10.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
  2. 7.11 Snapshot Kibana Cloud should be available.
  3. Agent should be installed and running.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Login to Kibana with super user.
  2. Go to fleet > Agents>
  3. Notice, 'Upgrade available' icon is displayed for the host.
  4. Goto Actions. click on 'upgrade Agent' option.
  5. Notice, 'Ugrading Agent' toast message is displayed.
  6. Wait for few seconds, click on activity logs.

  • Agent should be upgraded successfully.

@rahulgupta-qasource when we test this - we can use the latest BC of the stack in (or a snapshot is fine) and the next build snapshot of Agent. Thank you for logging it and for @michalpristas for the quick review and fix!

Hi @EricDavisX,

We have validated this issue by upgrading 7.10 Snapshot agent to 7.11 snapshot build and found it Fixed.

Build details are as follows:
BUILD: 36126
COMMIT: 233a3e3a4afc4f3e40a03280b11fab054ee35602

Preconditions

  1. Artifacts for Agent Kibana should be available.
  2. 7.11 Snapshot Kibana Cloud should be available.
  3. Agent should be installed and running.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Login to Kibana with super user.
  2. Go to fleet > Agents>
  3. Notice, 'Upgrade available' icon is displayed for the host.
  4. Go to Actions. click on 'upgrade Agent' option.
  5. Notice, 'Upgrading Agent' toast message is displayed.

Observation:

  • Wait for few seconds, and observe updated version 7.11.0 is displayed under 'Version' column.
  • Agent is upgraded successfully with Filebeat and Matricbeat logs running in 'Activity logs'.
