Steps to reproduce

Everytime I reload Element (private Matrix, private Element behind nginx) I receive notifications about unread messages. Rooms show unread messages as well. I suppose its related to using threads in these rooms.

So I wanted to reset state and logged out, declining to save encryption state because I have another device at hand. Now I need to request keys from the other devices, that's expected. Unfortunately, some messages in threads (even some of my own) cannot be unencrypted.

Outcome

Unread messages stay unread.

What about the "unencryptable" messages? Should I create another issue?

It is likely a function of time, a new login can take some time to be able to decrypt all messages if you have a lot of megolm keys to share. But yes if it doesn't go away open a new issue and title it more sensibly.
