Hi
I had a question, why version 5 is not released faster. It's been three years now and there is still an alpha version and the development process is very slow
Is there a specific reason?

Hi @Hesamp there are a lost of things, but ultimately we just need contributors to help make the actual code changes behind the checkpoints listed at the top of #2237

A great example of this is that we have changes to the underlying router module that need to be merged into Express 5.0 branch for the next 5.0 release. There is a PR #4321 opened which is unfinished. if the author needs help to make that happen, then ideally folks will volunteer their time to push up the remaining changes so we can get it landed.

@dougwilson how can I help? What is the biggest blocker to v5 right now?

We need to get PR #4321 finished to release the RC. This router update contains the bulk of the 5.0 changes.

who do I bug to get some context around this? Should I pester you?

are you on discord or gitter or something? happy to briefly chat in real time if that helps.

In my time zone it is fairly late and am actually out finishing up a family dinner right now, so not able to discuss at this time in that kind of way. I wanted to try to get you the quick answers to get you moving, but it sounds like you are looking for a much larger amount of time.

yeah I definitely don't want to pester you mid dinner, go do that!

And I appreciate all the work you've done to pick up the maintenance work.

I can probably dig through that issue and try to figure out what to do, it's just not clear to me as a newbie to this particular codebase a) which items are already being worked on b) by whom and c) what some of the items actually are. :P but I'm happy to just poke around. sometimes real time chat is a fast way to get up to speed but I get that it doesn't scale.

If you like as well, you can send me an email (in package.json) as we can find a good time where I can help point you around and get your energy towards the release, as that is always great!
