Deltachat 1.44.1 (flatpak) on Ubuntu 22.04.4, gnome shell 42.9, wayland, and fractional scale at 125%.

In the delta chat appearance settings I have tray icon turned on; however, no icon appears in the tray area or anywhere on the top bar.

One do not need to run flatpak run --own-name=org.kde.* chat.delta.desktop to achieve that.

This one works for me: flatpak run --talk-name=org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher chat.delta.desktop

You can override default setting for this package to make them permanent: sudo flatpak override chat.delta.desktop --talk-name=org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher --system

I guess, you can think about bundling this permission into the package
