Acceptance criteria:

  • Ensure we can create Giant Swarm clusters with Kubernetes v29
  • Ensure upgrades from GS release v28 to v29 work
  • Release GS v29.0.0 for CAPV

Nick and me were talking about the in-progress and upcoming releases for different providers last week. At the moment we have this one here in the pipeline and agreed on not bumping the Observability bundle, yet, as we first would like to get all the v29.x.x releases of the different providers aligned in terms of included app and component versions.

For this we would need to include Flatcar v3975.2.1 and Kubernetes v1.29.9 instead of v3975.2.2 and v1.29.10 in CAPV v29.0.0. With that we could then release a new minor of CAPA, CAPZ and CAPV which would then include Flatcar v3975.2.2, Kubernetes v1.29.10 and - most important - Observability Bundle v1.7.0.

I know it's not ideal to not have the latest patch version of Flatcar and Kubernetes included, but I'd rather prefer this way for the sake of consistency and having the same changes across all providers.

We decided to still have the latest patch versions of the components (Flatcar, Kubernetes, OS Tooling) included. Apart from that we are consistent with other v29.x.x releases.

Tests passed, so the PR already got merged. Now we only need to announce it.
