See discussion in godotengine/godot#12659, godotengine/godot#10147, godotengine/godot#9037 & so on.

Basically, this is a complex concept and needs to be documented and explained carefully somewhere.

Is this topic still relevant? With all the changes in recent years I would think this is no longer needed.
