Is it possible to use the graylog2 http api with this log4j2 appender library?

No, GELF via HTTP(S) is currently not supported by log4j2-gelf.

Since it's using gelfclient under the hood, HTTP will be supported once Graylog2/gelfclient#9 has been implemented.
