Data Validator for Tech Group / Organizations #18
Comments
Ideas from August 4th 2015 |
The Upstate Events list is great. However, I can't tell how to deal with bad data and someone suggested I put it on this issue. The event link for the GSP Developers' Guild should be http://www.meetup.com/Greenville-Spartanburg-Developers-Guild/. While we have a FB page, it is ancillary to our website and meetup. Thanks. |
Thanks @joewalling. @rhynodesigns and I made a validator last month and it is checking for 404 errors and redirects, but it wouldn't pick up on such things. Dave Brothers is going to update the listing. |
@joewalling GSP Developer's Guild entry is updated. |
This is where we're directing the public to suggest changes. Since a number of us now have accounts I figured to assign this to folks so they are more likely to see any future comments from the public. |
The tech meetup list now has fields for homepage vs event calendar/service homepage. We'll validate against both URLs. |
On https://hackgreenville.com/orgs, two updates for this page: The "DC864 DEF CON" group homepage should be https://www.dc864.org/ Thanks for looking into these! |
Thanks @Luke-Tech These changes have been made. If you'd like to help update the data directly then just let me know and I can setup edit access. |
I found a couple URLs changed already. If/as the data gets stale, it gets less trusted, and therefore less used. That's a big potential problem.
A tool to visit URLs, email the organizer an "anything changed" email once every couple months, and something to validate that the event site is still active would be handy.
I could see this sending notices to an admin to start.
