It would be great if a Packer extension for VS Code existed.

Hi @vanmash thanks for making the request. I agree this would be a nice addition to the editor experience. We have a dedicated team on the extension. So I will need to follow up with them and get back to the request.

@vanmash thanks again for opening up the issue. I've synced the issue to our internal board for planning. An official HashiCorp Packer extension is a good idea but will require some effort.

As of right now you can use the HashiCorp HCL extension and the community maintained Packer extension which both support Syntax highlighting.

If you are already using one the above plugins and would like to request support for certain functionality please feel free to do so on this issue. Cheers!

@nywilken Just want to check what's the current progress and plan for packer vscode extension. It seems the community extension is not actively maintained and the official HCL extension lacks for important features like formatting and auto-completion. Thanks!

If there's not an official or planned extension being worked on I'd be happy to help with creating a extension & possibly a LSP to be portable for other editors.
