packer errors with Killed: 9

I just attempted to run packer version 1.0.0 and 1.0.4 on my mac and it's resulting in a process kill message and packer just ending. I'm on OSX Ventura. This error feels familiar like it was something in the golang ecosystem and OSX world that made it so old builds would require a rebuild to run correctly but I couldn't find anything other than this post describing the issue. #8820

I tested version 1.4.5 which seems to be unaffected and while I haven't tested thoroughly, it seems to parse the build template the same way 1.0.0 did.
