Using Other Entities as Extra Actors
With Anamnesis, you can now automatically change a wide variety of entities into extra Actors instead of having to bring extra players along.
Please note that it is not possible to simply generate actors; an entity must already exist within the current world space in order to be used. The closest to 'creating' an actor for use is via summoning a pet or companion.
- Using a Summoner Pet
- Using a Housing NPC or Mannequins
- Using a Chocobo
- Using a Squadron Member
- Limitations
Summoner pets are an easy and more readily available option when changing another entity into an editable Actor. However, it is usually better if a Carbuncle is used, as Primal-Egis changed into editable Actors tend to have incorrect scaling and will more often than not float, requiring Y-axis changes to put them on the ground correctly. The easiest way is to remove the Summoner/Scholar job stone, and using the Arcanist Carbuncles.
To change your Summoner pet egi into a Carbuncle, you can use a combination of the following in-game chat commands (as found on the Lodestone). Please note you will need to have done the quest An Egi by Any Other Name:
/egiglamour "egi name" "glamour"
Valid Egi Names | Valid Glamours |
---|---|
Garuda-Egi | Emerald Carbuncle |
Titan-Egi | Topaz Carbuncle |
Ifrit-Egi | Ruby Carbuncle |
Example:
/egiglamour "Garuda-Egi" "Ruby Carbuncle"
This will glamour your Garuda-Egi as a Ruby Carbuncle. Not specifying the glamour (in this example, Ruby Carbuncle), the Egi glamour will be reset.
Generally speaking, if you have unlocked Arcanist for the sole purpose of using a Carbuncle, you will only need to get to level 4 to unlock the first Summon ability, which will be Emerald Carbuncle by default, and therefore will need no further modification. All three Carbuncle varieties will work.
At this stage it is advised that you do not use a Scholar pet for the same reason as using a Primal-egi.
To change your pet into an editable Actor, simply select them as a new Actor by pressing the (+) button in the top-left of the tool. From here, you can load an appearance onto them directly as if they were a player.
Summoner Pets are unique in that they are able to equip and draw weapons, albeit with a few extra steps than a regular player entity.
This can be achieved by targeting a source that can be attacked (including training dummies), using Sic on your pet, then immediately using Heel to prevent them from landing a hit. This will force them to draw their weapon and return to you, allowing them to be posed with their weapon out.
Due to changes brought about in Patch 6.0, old methods of drawing Carbuncle weapons will no longer work as Sic is no longer a useable skill. Instead, please see Asgard's Animation FAQ for an alternative method, which can be used on all actors.
As with Carbuncles, simply select the target housing NPC or mannequin as a new Actor by pressing the (+) button in the top-left of the tool and load an appearance onto them.
Outdoor retainers are handled differently; you can read more about them here.
Chocobos can be used in much the same was as Carbuncles, but with a few extra quirks. They will need to have their scale reset to 1 on each axis, which can be done on any of the posing tabs. From here, as with other stand-ins, you can load an appearance onto them directly.
Squadron members are flagged as Players by default, so they are ready to be edited and posed as needed.
Minion entities cannot be turned into editable NPCs at this time, and attempts to change them as such may result in unwanted effects including but not limited to Anamnesis not working, or the Final Fantasy XIV process crashing.
This does not apply in the case of using prop mods loaded onto minions. This is covered further in the Using Props page.
Outdoor Retainer selection occasionally gets lost when entering GPose due to how the game copies entities when going into GPose. To mitigate this, you will need to unpin them, and then repin them as you would a regular retainer. They will retain any appearances loaded onto them.
