Welcome to the Creative-Coding-RAC-Summer-16 wiki!

Hello, World!

My name is Jason Mandel and I am a New Media and Computer Science student at SUNY Purchase and this is Creative Coding, a class I am teaching this summer at the Rye Arts Center. In this class students will get a feel for what it's like to create art with code. The fundamentals of working with computers to make art will be discussed and applied through a variety of projects.

Through programming explorations and more, interesting and fun concepts will be brought forth through the lens of creative projects. Example projects include a goofy meme generator, an animated robot, and a custom “glitchy” video effects filter. We will be exploring the Java language as well fundamental programming principles using Processing, an Open Source developing platform that was born at MIT, and maintained by a large and ever growing, friendly community of Educators, Artists, Architects, and enthusiasts including faculty at NYU, UCLA, and SUNY Purchase among many many others. Also, did I mention that Processing is free and will run on any machine? You can download it here #awesome #sick. So with that said, all supplies in this class are included.

Creative code in the wild

Here are some examples of interesting projects powered by tools like Processing and others. Very special thank you to my awesome professor, Tega Brain and to Golan Levin Director of the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry and Associate Professor of Electronic Time-Based Art CMU for providing these examples.

What is this?

Students will be using this page to share their work and collaborate with other students on their projects. GitHub is a fantastic and useful tool for collaborating with others on projects. It's used by millions of professionals, educators, students and is one of the most popular project distribution platform on the planet!
