Fix code quality and styling issues

The MISS_HIT linter now runs quality and styling checks on all PRs to the master branch. These checks currently fail on A LOT of the code base, i.e. the styling and code quality needs some work.

The exact updated that are required for these checks to succeed can be viewed in the build logs of the actions, or by running the MISS_HIT linter locally (instructions in README)
