- ✔️ Copy the
Storm
folder from the CD to your hard drive.⚠️ Don't create a path with a space in it or else the AVI videos will not play.- For example, this is my path:
C:\Games\Sierra\Storm
- For example, this is my path:
- ✔️ Download and run one of the v1.01 patchers (Sierra's or mine) from your
Storm
folder. This patch fixes the fast-animation/fast-game-play issues -- that herc is supposed to be hovering and not vibrating! - ℹ️ No compatibility settings needed on
Storm.exe
(as tested on Windows 7 and 10).
❌ v1.0 to v1.01 (16-bit program for Windows XP and earlier): The Sierra Help Pages - Cyberstorm Series Updates
✔️ v1.0 to v1.01 (my own 32-bit version of Sierra's patch): CyberStorm2-101-Patch.exe
(none needed) 👍
The game CD has 4 audio tracks on it in addition to the data track. These are the background music (BGM) tracks for during game play. (The BGM for the menus must be in the data files.) On Windows 10, the BGM does not respond to the music volume settings.
On Windows 10, the game will play one track of BGM in game and then quit playing music. See this guide for ideas on ripping the audio tracks and what to do next:
Network gaming not yet tested. See CyberStorm 1 for possible hints.
Regarding online play, CS2 supported WON. WON died after Valve reneged on their WON support and secretly built Steam on their own. A splinter group created WON2 but it only supports Half-Life and its mods thus far. NeuWon/NuWON sprung up for a while with much more support for more games, but that seems dead now.
Kali doesn't currently list CS2 as supported but it might be worth a try given that it used to support CS1. Look up the kali.net fan server (called "Retro Gaming" and/or "Retro PCs and Game Development") on Discord (find the link at kali's helpful YouTube video) and see if any there are game. 😱
Otherwise, the only current option seems to be to set up your own VPN for online play (which is beyond the scope of this wiki).
- The audio data in this game indicates that it should need the same audio fixes I applied to MiniGolf and CS1 and, yet, I cannot get the game to crash due to this audio issue. If you find any mysterious repeatable crash, report it and I'll try to see if it is related to this audio issue... in which case, I'll fix it.
- There are no help files. If you are lucky, your copy came with a printed manual. The tutorial system is rather verbose. The games provides help through a link to http://www.sierra.com/cs2 which, of course, no longer exists (not even on archive.org -- if you find it, tell me). You can try looking elsewhere online for additional help. Try SierraGamers (has a PDF manual), The Sierra Chest, or The Sierra Help Pages (the PDF manual found here is the easiest to read -- except the screenshots are worse). Note: the later XPLOSIV print doesn't come with a manual (of course).
Please do not steal these game patches by hosting them on your own site . Link here instead or, more preferably, to my blog post. If I can't determine how popular they might be by the traffic, then why should I make more?
Check out the early-access release of my indie game, GRITS Racing, a crazy party game that involves something that looks a bit like auto racing... but can get more messy than race-like.
