The downside is that I can't think of a quick way to integrate it into the current wildcarding system.

Possible solutions:

• ideally, long term as the ecosystem weens off of Scala 2 and settles on scala 3, we can break the old way by changing this predefined Map into a function, so the new name can depend on the old.
• In the meantime, if you have the bandwidth, you might consider your own fork where you introduce here some mix of your own 'capture group' syntax, or maybe treat the * as a variable
