Description

It is currently possible to reference the Module Template that is installed locally in the runtime cluster. Since the submission process has changed and there is a clear line between what should modules and KLM do there is no need to keep it anymore.

Reasons

Module submission pipeline was introduced and there is no need to support external testing for Module Template-related matters. Teams should test their operators independently of the KLM lifecycle.

Dropping the feature will improve overall security and reduce maintenance efforts.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Support for the Remote Module Template feature removed
    • Documentation adjusted (clarify with @mmitoraj what and where needs to be)
    • Deprecate and ignore the .spec.modules[].remoteModuleTemplateRef field of Kyma CR
    • API version upgrade discussed/ticket created (link it here)
    • Adapt the tests related to the functionality
    • Communicate the change to the team (ping @janmedrek)
