issue with setShowingChar(), shrinks to single line

on setting setShowingChar() , the textview works initially but after clicking "See less" it shrinks to single line and "See more" disappears.

in my activity :

productDescriptionText.apply {
            setShowingChar(400)
            addShowMoreText("Read more")
            addShowLessText("Read less")

        }
