User Story

AS A concerned citizen of the world, looking out for myself and my loved ones. I WANT to get up to date information on the spread of COVID-19 in my area. SO THAT I can make safe plans for shopping, working and living in my community.

APIs

• IP Geolocation: https://ipapi.co/ Used to get the city location of the user.
• COVID-19 Statistics: https://rapidapi.com/axisbits-axisbits-default/api/covid-19-statistics/ & https://covid-19-apis.postman.com/ Used to get local coronavirus related statistics.
• Novel COVID API : Multi-source aggregated Covid-19 stats.
• NewsAPI.org : Search worldwide news with code.

Wireframe

Local search button pulls up info to populate map. Also fills info into Recent Cases, Hot Spots (maybe other categories) which animate down to reveal info when tapped/clicked. Local resources offers info on where to find help, food, distractions etc.

Tasks

• Design HTML with classes and id's to use in CSS & JS.
• Design CSS utilizing Bootstrap & flex classes to make our app mobile-first, visually appealing and ready to work with JS / jQuery.
• JS / jQuery to add interactivity and functionality.
• APIs to tackle; working out proper AJAX calls to add further features to our scripts.

Roles

• Chase - Map & Global Stats API, Frontend & CSS styling.
• David - News, Testing & additional Stats API, plus some CSS.
• Maurice - Map API, Frontend & CSS styling.

Successes

• Fully functional application.
• Utilizes miltiple APIs to work together in unison.
• Tracks latest updates for COV-19 Global and Local Statistics.
• Provides National Headlines with working links.
• Provides local testing info based on user location.
• Provides additional resources for those who need help.

Challenges

• Getting Map API to display cluters on Map with country data.
• Coordinating the various API calls to populate on load without errors.
• Extracting numerous data points from AJAX to display in the correct elements in HTML.

Future-Development

• Update Map API to display more information.
• Add diagrams to sync with statistics.
• Developement desktop application.
