Is it possible to generate output files with multiple video tracks?

I have a video file with people in it, and I want to create an overlay video track with name strings placed next to the various people. However, I want to be able to play the resulting video both with AND WITHOUT the name overlay. So similar to subtitles, I want to be able to turn it off. But I can't just use subtitles because there can be several people on the screen at once, and there would be no way to identify which name went with which person if the text was only at the bottom of the viewport.

Is this possible with editly? For that matter, is it possible with ffmpeg? I'm rather new to video editing, so I don't know how to achieve this.
