Can you add some brief usage documentation?

I'm looking to migrate from the Haskell-built panpipe because it seems unmaintained since new Pandoc releases require a new build of that plugin and the author's inactive and unresponsive via email or GitHub.

I've implemented my own pipe filter in Lua but yours seems like an attempt to replicate the functionality of the Haskell-built one, which is functionality that I would prefer!
