It would be really useful to have a button on each deck that opens the main library, and selects the currently playing track. If the track is not in the library, then show it in which ever collection it is in.

Another option is to have a "show current track" button near the library, that selects the track from the currently playing deck (loudest deck, or switches between tracks from each deck when multiple decks are playing).

(this would probably negate the need for https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1271812/comments/3 )

(I'm just automatically marking all wishlist bugs as 2.1 these days to keep things manageable)

Do you have a special use case for this?
For me, the right click context menu on the Deck would work better.

At the moment, the only real use would be to rate a track, since that's not in the context menu.

Aside from that, the two options are practically pretty similar, but I think this is probably a bit cleaner, because a context menu in the decks might get confusing (right-click in that area generally does something, like resetting a control). Also, this option would be better for those mostly using controllers - for example, you could map "show in library" to a controller button, and then it will make it easier to controller-browse other tracks by that artist (or by bpm what ever you have the library sorted by).

Ah, Yes, I see. A right clock for such a menu on the deck will feel odd.

1+ for a "show in library" CO

What about adding a Qt Tool Button [...] to the decks that opens a context menu using a left click.
This may contain a "Find in library" entry among others.
This also may help to de-clutter the deck a bit.

This would actually be a useful function in other spots, too. For instance, you can't hide a track from a crate. But if you were in the create, and could click "show in library", then you could hide it from there.

I think the best place to fit this into the UI would be left clicking on a WTrackProperty.

My use cased is to quickly edit metadata properties of the track to help with rapid categorisation while playing music.

Its much more useful for me to simply click on a button that brings up the properties dialog rather than (I think this is what people are saying) move to the main library thus loosing the context I am currently working in.

FWIW: The library redesign, and the ability to have a constantly-open recent history tab (like #991 (comment)) would solve this completely for me.

I think given that most skins will probably eventually include a rating widget somewhere in the deck, there is no longer much use for this for me, and I would prefer to close it in favour of https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1271812 (since nearly all other metadata is available in the context menu).

Now double-clicking title, artist or other track labels opens the
Track Properties dialog which allows to edit all metadata, including the star rating.
(except the track color lp:1916119)
