Some effects have more parameters than controllers have knobs for effects. While we can provide sensible defaults for the parameters that users would be most likely to want to manipulate live, inevitably some users will disagree with the defaults and a parameter they want to manipulate will be out of reach of their controller's knobs. A good solution to this would be to let users arbitrarily rearrange the order of parameters. Users should also have the option to hide parameters they do not care about changing from the default to reduce clutter in the GUI.

This is a prerequisite for supporting external effects plugins (LV2 (Bug #1530238) and VST) in a usable way.

This is also a prerequisite for supporting send chains because of the way our Echo and Reverb effects are implemented: Bug #1662049
