Automatically determine schema version from schema file?

Is there any builtin way to determine schema version?

It looks really good and non-intrusive. Sometimes, the parent schema and children might have different versions and the parent version is the one that is used. I am wondering if you could add a document on how to use the version detector. Thanks a lot for your help.
