This PR was supposed to do that: encode/django-rest-framework#8009 but it got reverted here encode/django-rest-framework#9332 because it caused a regression for other folks (is fine for us). The commit we reference in pyproject.toml is from encode/django-rest-framework#8009, so around DRF ~3.14 - we will eventually need to take patches from main, but perhaps we can rebase encode/django-rest-framework#8009 when the time comes
