Is there any follow-up work being done as of now? Did it lead to something useful? Are there plans?

The work is largely done; we would still like to see this merged.

We have started on https://www.softwareheritage.org/2022/02/10/building-bridge-to-the-software-heritage-archive/ in the meantime, in part to try to bolster the case with a project that won't end up caught in limbo.

I have also signed up to mentor NixOS/rfcs#122 which, while separate, should still be complementary.

We aim to write more on this topic so these projects are easier to follow.
