Some recent update has introduced the following failure, reproducible by installing the operator v0.17.0 from the quickstart instructions:

E1217 09:30:52.378765       1 leaderelection.go:325] error retrieving resource lock opentelemetry-operator-system/9f7554c3.opentelemetry.io: leases.coordination.k8s.io "9f7554c3.opentelemetry.io" is forbidden: User "system:serviceaccount:opentelemetry-operator-system:default" cannot get resource "leases" in API group "coordination.k8s.io" in the namespace "opentelemetry-operator-system"
